x + 3y = 6
2x − y = 10

Solve equation [1] for the variable x [1] x=(3y+6)

Plug this in or variable x in equation [2]

[2] 2(-3y+6)-y= 10

[2] -7y=-2  

// solve equation [2] for the variable y

[2]   7y= 2

[2]    y=2/7

By now we know this much  

X= -3y+6

Y=2/7

Use the y value to solve for x  

X=-3(2/7)+6=36/7

(x,y)=(36,7), (2/7)
